Mehedi Hasan/Dhaka TribuneThe BGB could have an integral role to play in helping the country uphold its safety measuresFor any country to function smoothly, and indeed aspire to make the lives of its citizens better every day, every single public institution must wholeheartedly take a citizen-centric approach, and remain disciplined and committed to the country and its people. From keeping our borders safe, to ensuring that smuggling and other such illegal cross-border activities are not allowed, to playing an important part to serve the country during the Covid-19 pandemic, the BGB remains extremely important to Bangladesh. Indeed, with a possible second wave of Covid-19 hitting Bangladesh over the winter, the BGB could have an integral role to play in helping the country uphold its safety measures to ensure that the devastating effects of the virus are kept to a minimum and that the least damage is done to lives and livelihoods. The BGB has always been extremely important to Bangladesh, dating back to East Pakistan and its significance during our Liberation War. With the tremendous support it has received from the current government in recent times and how it has expanded its capacity tremendously, it is natural to have high expectations from the force that it will continue to serve Bangladesh with dignity and honour.
