The Election Commission (EC) has appealed against the High Court order to stay Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls by six months. The High Court on January 17 stayed the DNCC by-polls and the polls of newly added ward councils for six months. following the hearing on two writ petitions. The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed gave the order. Jahangir Alom, chairman of Beraid Union Parishad, and Ataur Rahman, chairman of Bhatara Union Parishad, filed the two writ petitions seeking the stay order.
