External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be travelling to Dhaka in Bangladesh to attend the funeral of former Bangladesh prime minister Khaleda Zia. This will be India's first such senior visit to Bangladesh since former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's government was overthrown following a massive students-led protest. An official statement mentioned that Jaishankar will represent the government and people of India at the funeral of Khaleda Zia, former prime minister of Bangladesh and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Khaleda Zia died on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. The interim government of Bangladesh also announced a three-day state mourning and one-day general holiday in honour of Khaleda Zia.
