The “Joe Biden is toast” story is so entrenched in conventional wisdom — so pervasive and repetitive — that buying into it has become a near-requirement for membership in the Federation of Political Pundits. It’s true, of course, that for conventional wisdom to change, political actors often need to alter their behavior in response to the factors feeding the prevailing view. Some realities (Biden being over 80, for example) won’t change. But my discussions with his aides suggest they are not in denial about the president’s poll standings.
