World War 2 ended while the Cold War preserved a status quo equilibrium between the emergent great powers of the United States and the Soviet Union. In the West, the 1966 television series Star Trek, took us to a future of no money, little disease, and plentiful free energy. With Star Trek, we imagined a future of personal communicators2 and medical tricorders. In balance, and into the 1980s, Star Trek and Star Wars continued to deliver hope in a space future where social justice prevailed against the oppressed. Even in the 2020-2023 Star Trek, Picard, we find a future of uncertainty, refugees, betrayal, and distrust.
