Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo reaffirmed the President’s hands-off stance on the speakership race even after admitting that Duterte had previously suggested term sharing between two contenders. The President recently announced that he has no intention of endorsing any candidate for House Speaker, saying the lawmakers should sort out the issue among themselves. The President’s son, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, recently floated the idea of possibly running for speaker in a bid to unite a divided House of Representatives.
