PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte plans to fire 90 police officers over allegations of corruption, saying this was a continuation of his government’s purge of the ranks of law enforcers. “On Wednesday, about three superintendents, about 90, perhaps a minimum of 60 police, you leave the PNP,” the President said. Duterte railed against policemen in cahoots with criminal gangs or corrupt local government officials. Duterte had sacked police officials allegedly involved in illegal drugs—Metro Manila police chief Joel Pagdilao and former Quezon City Police District director Edgardo Tinio. PNP chief Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa on Monday admitted that he gave President Rodrigo Duterte a list of police scalawags.
