Republic Act (RA) 11202, also known as the “Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Act,” was signed by the President on February 8, but was released to the media on Tuesday, February 19. Under the new law, Public Telecommunications Entities (PTEs) in the Philippines should provide consumers with mobile number portability, allowing them to transfer from one network provider to another free of charge. “A subscriber shall be allowed to port the same number only after the lapse of 60 days from the completion of the last porting process,” the law said. The new law will take effect 15 days after its complete publication in the Official Gazette or at least two newspapers of general circulation.
