In his visit to Japan last week, the President has approved the sale of the jewelry from the Marcos family reportedly worth P700 million through public auction. The jewelry collection, which reportedly included diamond-studded tiaras, bracelets, and necklaces, was seized in Honolulu, Hawaii where the Marcos family fled in 1986 following the EDSA People Power Revolution that ended the strongman’s rule. Panelo recently said the upcoming public auction of the jewelry collection seized from the Marcos family demonstrates that President Duterte makes decisions based on public interest and not on friendship or political alliance.
