In a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte dated June 9, the Chinese leader stressed that the two countries are "friendly neighbors with time-honored friendship." Xi also conveyed his best wishes to the Philippines ahead of the country's 123rd anniversary of independence on June 12.
