Duo likely to be charged over theft of Buddha statue - Metro News

GEORGE TOWN: Their karma is not getting any better after being suspected of stealing a Reclining Buddha statue from the prayer hall of the Penang Buddhist Association. The 36-year-old antique dealer and his 29-year-old female friend had their remand extended by another two days and they are expected to be charged after that, said George Town CID chief Deputy Supt Helmi Sulaiman. Last Wednesday, devotees of Penang Buddhist Association in Anson Road noticed that the Reclining Buddha statue was missing from the prayer hall altar. The foot-long marble statue is believed to be more than 90 years old and worth RM10,000. Security camera footage showed two people stealing the statue on Dec 11.
