Dunedin man challenging Shaw for Green Party leadership

Dunedin software developer James Cockle will try to replace James Shaw as Green Party co-leader next month. Photo: RNZ / YoutubeGreen Party co-leader James Shaw is being challenged for his job by a climate activist, but says he's "quietly confident" he'll retain it. Cockle, who is campaigning largely on existing Green Party policy, is unhappy with the progress the Green Party have made this Parliamentary term. Cockle said it was time for the Green Party to become a "major party" and to stop being "Labour's little helper". Green Party members told RNZ the challenge was surprising but they were interested in what having a co-leader outside Parliament could mean for the party.
