A Dunedin city councillor has called on Australian Senator Fraser Anning to resign. Senator Anning had responded to last week's bloodshed by suggesting New Zealand's immigration policies - rather than the gunman's white supremacist ideology - was to blame for the attack. The comments were roundly condemned and saw Senator Anning egged by a teenager during a subsequent public appearance. Yesterday, Cr O'Malley said he was opposed to the "casual use of racism in politics'', be it in New Zealand or Australia. I therefore ask for Senator Anning to resign.
