UncategorizedFormer MP Duminda Silva, who was sentenced to death after being found guilty in the murders of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others, filed an appeal today seeking to overturn his sentence. Three others who were sentenced to death in the same case filed their appeals on September 20. All four appeals will now be taken up by the Supreme Court. By a divided verdict of two to one, a Trial-at-Bar at the Colombo High Court sentenced the accused to death after finding them guilty of the charges on September 8. Former MP and Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others were murdered at Mulleriyawa on October 8, 2011.
