Duck hunters will have to wait until at least May 23 for the opening of the gamebird season this year. Bejon Haswell/Stuff Timaru hunter Phil Stovell says changes to the 2020 duck shooting season mean he won't be making a regular trip to the North Island. Stovell said he was not sure whether he would go duck shooting at all this season. "I guess you could say I have served my apprenticeship as I haven't missed an opening morning of the shooting season since 1957. "The gamebird season is to maintain and manage gamebird populations and the current dates are appropriate for that.
