Dublin city speed limits to be cut

The Road Traffic Act 2024 defines the default urban speed limit as 30km/h, but the city council said: 'this particular section has not been enacted by the Minister'. Dublin City Council had been introducing 30km/h zones in residential areas on a phased basis over the last two decades. In 2007 it lowered speed limits in the shopping and central business area of the city from 50km/h to 30km/h. “All roads designed appropriately to accommodate higher speed limits would have their speed limits set through the introduction of special speed limit bylaws,” the council said. Initially, it will “identify roads that are suitable for immediate transition to 20 and 30km/h speed limits”.
