The Catholic Church is patron of over 90 per cent of the primary schools in Ireland. In August, the World Meeting of Families takes place in Dublin. Last October, Bishop of Limerick Brendan Leahy said that it should be an inclusive event for all families, including gay families. And what about the State’s role in holding the Catholic Church and the schools they are patrons of to account?
