Photo: Getty ImagesTwo-time Olympic rowing champion and five-time world champion Mahé Drysdale has called time on his competitive career. Drysdale dominated the single scull for over a decade, first having represented New Zealand in 2002 in the men's coxless four, and competed at his first Olympic Games in Athens 2004, finishing fifth in the men's coxless four. In 2005, he moved to the single sculls, going on to win gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Games. He won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics despite being struck down by a serious bout of gastroenteritis. While you always dream of ending it with a fairy tale, time has beaten me on this occasion," Drysdale said on his website.
