more-inA 35-year-old daily wage worker was arrested after he, in a drunken state, set ablaze his three-year-old speech and hearing impaired daughter at Thirunaraiyur near Kumaratchi on Tuesday evening. The child sustained 80% burns and died at the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital in Chidambaram. The police said R. Arumugam of Thirunaraiyur near Kumaratchi married Nadhiya (28) four years ago and the couple had a three-year-old daughter Anushree. On Tuesday, Arumugam returned home drunk at around 6 p.m.Ms. Nadhiya was not at home and the child had been sleeping alone in the house. The accused in a fit of rage poured kerosene over the child and set her on fire.
