A grandmother who had driven to school to pick up her grandchildren was found to be three times over the drink-driving limit. The 58-year-old woman was spotted swerving across College Road in Edgecumbe in the Eastern Bay of Plenty on Tuesday. Police found the car outside a primary school and approached the driver, who was waiting to pick up her grandchildren. “A passenger in the vehicle was also under the influence of alcohol,” said Senior Sergeant Tristan Murray of Eastern Bay of Plenty Police. “We want to see everybody taking their safety and the safety of other motorists seriously, to help ensure everyone arrives alive.”
