The question of identity is at the core of Linden MacIntyre’s powerful new novel “The Winter Wives,” although the precise nature of the question is constantly shifting: How well do I know those closest to me? And, obviously, Peggy.”Byron, the protagonist and narrator of the novel, has known the Winter sisters and Allan Chase almost his entire life. Everything begins to come apart, however, when Allan — in his sixties — suffers a heart attack during a golf trip with Byron. This struggle makes “The Winter Wives” a powerful, thought-provoking read.
