The deceased, 22-day-old Surjo Mahanta was hacked to death with a kitchen tool by his father Subhas Chandra Mahanta at his house in Baraihat’s Bholapara village on Thursday morning. Quoting the neighbours, police sources said, at around 7am on Thursday, they heard the screams of the mother Anamika. When they rushed in and broke the side of the locked room, they found the blood soaked newborn and his injured mother. Later police came and arrested the accused Subhas for killing his son, and took the injured mother to a hospital for treatment, said Fakhrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Fulbari police station.
