Driving school revamp hits bump

Most driving schools across Calcutta have scant infrastructure to train those signing up to learn driving. A motor training school on Bondel Road charges Rs 5,500 for the package, which includes preparing the applicants for two online tests. The first test, held at the public vehicles department's office in Beltala, is for a temporary driving licence. In its place the government introduced the training manual, which was first prepared in English and later in Bengali. "In the absence of proper inspection, the revamp plan has mostly remained on paper," a transport department official said.
