But Judge Marie McKenzie, addressing McHale's family directly, said the sentences feel "hopelessly inadequate" in terms of their loss. Work colleague Trudy Lloyd said Stephanie McHale was a woman who dedicated her life to her family, sport and community. "[He is] wholeheartedly remorseful that his choice to drive has led to the death of Stephanie McHale and the serious injury of his brother," he said. His ute, which was towing a trailer, veered across the centre line and smashed into a vehicle driven by young mother Stephanie McHale, killing her.
