Driverless Grocery Delivery Service Debuts In Texas' Largest City

pixabayCincinnati-based Kroger (NYSE:KR) is introducing driverless, robot-controlled vehicles in high-traffic Houston zip codes. The company hopes to evolve to their driverless R1 vehicles in a matter of weeks - vehicles already in use for Arizona-based grocers. The software powering the cars uses a unique and proprietary software technology, developed by lead engineer and co-founder, Jianjun Zhu. Local Assistant Police Chief Onesmio Lopez, from Bellaire, Texas (where one of the stores is located) says that handling incidents with driverless cars is a bit of unmapped territory. For busy families, transforming shopping into a done-for-you service (with a pricetag of less than $6.00 for delivery) means new options for a select group of Texas residents.
