Driver of Iloilo City Zika victim first to experience symptoms


ILOILO CITY: A team composed of an epidemiologist, entomologist and doctors dispatched by the Department of Health (DOH) national office to evaluate the Zika virus case here established that the family driver of the victim was the first to experience symptoms but did not seek medical attention. The driver was reported to have experienced skin rashes and conjunctivitis but no fever about two weeks before the woman victim was diagnosed with possible Zika and chikungonya virus. But the driver has gone home to Antique to rest and until fully recovered from the ailment thought to be ordinary influenza. The DOH team, headed by physician Vicky de los Reyes from the epidemiology bureau, also interviewed 12 persons living in the same house of the 45-year-old woman confirmed to be afflicted by the Zika virus. The team left the city on Wednesday with samples and other facts gathered from the area.
