A driver died in an early Thanksgiving Day crash with a tractor trailer in Fairfax County, Virginia State Police said Thursday. State troopers responded to reports of the crash at 3:36 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Interstate 495 near the Van Dorn Street exit. Authorities identified the driver as Christopher S. Padilla, a 30-year-old Alexandria resident. Police said the truck driver, who was not injured, pulled to the shoulder to check the tractor-trailer for problems after noticing signs of mechnical issues. He returned to the driver's seat and was about to put on his seat belt when Padilla slammed into his tractor-trailer, police said.
