The fatal crash happened this evening at Elvington Airfield, situated between York and Market Weighton. North Yorkshire Police said: "Shortly after 4.30pm today (October 1) police were called to a serious collision at Elvington Airfield near York. A spokesman said: "Motorsport UK is deeply saddened to announce that a fatal accident occurred this afternoon at Elvington Airfield during a British land speed record attempt.
