A police spokeswoman said there had been a single-vehicle crash on Puhipuhi Rd in Whakapara, north of Whangārei, on Wednesday evening. The driver was critically injured and no one else had been in the car, the spokeswoman said. Fire services and a rescue helicopter from Northland Emergency Services Trust had also been sent to the scene.
