Following her arrest at 11am in Tambon Pa Rai, Porn-uma Saimai, 33, claimed that she was just trying to earn some extra money by transporting the illegal workers for an investor, whom she refused to name. Initial police questioning of the Cambodians (five males, two females and one girl) found that they had each paid a gang in Poi Pet, Cambodia, Bt2,500 to smuggle them into Thailand in the hope of finding work. They had got into Porn-uma's car to travel to Bangkok but were arrested on the way, they said. Porn-uma and her passengers were all sent to Khlong Leuk Police Station for further questioning.
