Sunil Guha was threatened and pushed by the youths who had entered his home on the pretext of apologising to him, he said. Guha told the police that the incident occurred last Friday and that he allowed the youths in only because they pretended to be remorseful. He had protested the previous night when a group of six to seven youths gathered in their drinking den, an abandoned building next door. On January 16, a car parked on CIT Road near Padmapukur was set ablaze after its owner protested against a group of youths drinking on the pavement. An elderly couple and their son were beaten up in Kasba last year after the father asked a group of young men not to drink and disturb in front of his home.
