Driftwood becomes art in Hokitika beach festivalSUPPLIED Hokitika's Driftwood and Sand festival founder Donald Buglass with one of his driftwood creations. Hokitika Beach will be converted into an art gallery as the annual Driftwood and Sand Festival kicks off. The festival, which begins on Wednesday, showcases beach debris as art. Organiser Sue Asplin said anyone could take part and express themselves using any materials found on the beach. Buglass has been busy creating the signature sculpture for the event, something he had done every year since the event began in 2003.
