Dreamworld owner defends safety practices


Ardent Leisure Group chief executive Deborah Thomas and company director George Venardos at the annual general meeting in Sydney. The meeting showed the company still in the early stages of managing the aftermath of Australia's deadliest theme park accident in four decades, instead of the update on US expansion aims that had been scheduled. Earlier, Ardent said the ride completed an annual safety inspection less than a month ago. In August, the company said theme park earnings rose 8.5%, as a spike in Chinese visitors pushed up admissions by 13%. "I'm a mother, I have a family, I take my family to Dreamworld, I am sympathetic."
