JOHOR BARU: The return of suspended Umno leaders such as Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin to the party fold will only strengthen Barisan Nasional as a whole, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. Dr Wee added that Hishammuddin and Khairy’s positive response towards returning to Umno also signalled their willingness to resume the party struggle. Rumah Bangsa, mooted by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is an initiative for suspended or sacked members to return to the party without conditions. In January 2023, Hishammuddin, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan and former Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang received a six-year suspension each, while former Umno Youth chief Khairy was sacked. On March 12, Hishammuddin, who is Sembrong MP, said he is ready to return and be active in Umno once again if his suspension is lifted.
