A lawsuit filed by the North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) against The Dr. Oz Show for false attacks against extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) sold in the U.S. was dismissed on March 3rd. In addition, the television doctor pushed common myths about olive oil quality and purity during the episode. “On behalf of myself and my team, I applaud Judge Dempsey’s ruling,” Dr. Oz said via a press release. “At no point in the show did any person disclose Ms. Hirschbein’s vested interest in denigrating olive oils originating outside of California or her vested interest in promoting California olive oils,” the NAOOA’s complaint stated. Nothing in the decision lends credence to the unsubstantiated attacks on olive oil made on The Dr. Oz segment, and we are evaluating our options for appeal.
