PUTRAJAYA: Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik encouraged zakat contributors to provide book donations to the poor. Sharing his experience of hailing from a less than wealthy family, Dr Maszlee said he borrowed books from his friends who were more well-to-do. “I saw interesting books that I couldn’t afford, but I borrowed from, mostly from my Chinese friends; they were nice to me and they were the ones whom I practiced English with. Dr Maszlee said zakat can be distributed to non-muslims from the B40 community as well. “I urge them to assist the poor non-muslims as well because together, we can improve our country's education for our country's development,” he added.
