Dr M: Govt contracts awarded on merit, Bersatu members won't be discriminated against - Nation

PUTRAJAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said if any Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members were to be awarded government contracts, it would be based on merit. The Bersatu chairman said government contracts that were given to party members would have to follow the proper tender processes. He was responding to questions about the apparent clash between party vice chief Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman and Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman over the awarding of contracts to party members. Syed Saddiq had said party members should not focus on soliciting for contracts while Abdul Rashid had said it was “stupid” not to provide contracts to division chiefs who may have been left behind. Dr Mahathir added that the right channel to be awarded contracts is through the tender process and that there would be consequences should there be any hanky-panky.
