YEREVAN - Dozens of people have been hospitalised and 26 arrested following clashes between police and protesters in Yerevan, Armenian authorities said Saturday. Armenian police told AFP that 165 people were detained during the unrest, of whom 26 were later arrested. The US embassy in Yerevan in a statement said it was "deeply troubled by the ongoing hostage situation." Using truncheons, stun grenades and smoke bombs, police broke up a rally held in support of the gunmen, who are holding three medics. Council of Europe chief Thorbjorn Jagland urged both parties to "put an end to this dangerous situation without delay."
