MONDAY PUZZLE — When we last saw Kieran King, he was making his New York Times Crossword debut with a puzzle that made sure we enunciated our words and knew our musical compositions. In this puzzle, he’s making a calculated effort to see how much we know about another subject. Today’s ThemeI hope you remember how to take the SQUARE ROOT of a number, because you will be doing a lot of that in Mr. King’s puzzle. TL;DR: The square root of a number is one that can be multiplied by itself to get the original number. To visually express the number that you want to take the square root of, you put a symbol that looks a bit like a check mark in front of it.
