The market moves came even as the number of Americans filing for jobless benefits for the first time continued to decline in the most recent week, MarketWatch reports. The Dow fell by 856 points, or 3.2 percent, to open near 23,133, while the S&P 500 gave up 84 points or 2.6 percent to open near 3,106 The Nasdaq Composite opened 220 points, or 2.2 percent, lower, near 9,800, one day after charting a new record above 10,000.
