When asked by a journalist if he was going to bring back EV rebates to Ontario, Premier Doug Ford responded by saying he would not, since it was millionaires benefiting from them. Even if it were just millionaires buying electric vehicles, wouldn’t it be a good thing if they were incentivized to do so? People can’t afford an EV because of the lack of parity in pricing, so they are forced to buy gas-burning vehicles. At the same time, Ford is investing heavily in EV manufacturers; $295 million provincial dollars have been allocated to retrofit the Ford plant in Oakville. Doug Ford projects an image of being “for the little guy,” but it has become glaringly obvious that he’s more for mega corporations.
