Today’s Doug Ford conservatives are pushing hard to build Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass. Public transit, particularly rail, is the key to getting people out of cars and moving vast amounts of them around a region. A new 413 would, just like other new urban highways in North America, fill up with cars quickly. The switch to electric cars, while good for the environment, will not reduce traffic either. New highways win votes in the short term but solve little long term, just creating more traffic.
