Premier Doug Ford is being accused of making “a backroom deal” to reward his controversial friend Charles McVety with the right to hand out university degrees at his evangelical college. “There’s no doubt that the fix is in,” NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said Tuesday. “This is Taverner Two and it’s shameful,” said Horwath, referring to Ford’s unsuccessful 2018 attempt to install his pal, Toronto police Staff Supt. McVety is going through the same process of every single other university in this province. In an email last week, McVety told the Star “the college, its president, staff, and faculty value all individuals, including the LGBTQ community.”“This Ontario legislation is based upon fairness, not favouritism.
