A new U.S.-Russian cease-fire deal for Syria was greeted with widespread skepticism Saturday, with members of the Syrian opposition expressing doubts that this deal would work where earlier efforts have failed to end the war. The Syrian opposition said it would have to closely study the details before reaching a decision on whether to abide by it. That “means entering a confrontation it cannot win or risk coming under attack itself by the United States and or Russia,” he said. “So you have the combination of the flights, the bombs and the confusion with Nusra,” Kerry said. Neither Kerry, Lavrov nor de Mistura mentioned the primary issue in those talks — the future of Assad — or indicated whether it was covered in the agreement.
