Double agent’s wife threatened suicide during WWII, previously top-secret files reveal

Juan Pujol-Garcia pictured on what appears to be some kind of transit document — it might also be fake —dated 1941. ( The National Archives, Britain ) The same document as prepared for Araceli Pujol-Garcia, double agent Juan Pujol-Garcia's wife. ( THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES, BRITAIN )The wife of one of Britain’s top double agents turned on the gas outlets in their home and threatened to kill herself out of despair in the midst of World War II. Other newly-released MI5 files deal with Soviet Intelligence agents and suspected agents from 1934 to 1959 and communists and suspected communists from 1920 to 1961. The files on Pujol-Garcia show that he was smuggled into England from Spain in April 1942, when he was thirty and his wife Araceli Gonzalez de Pujol was twenty-three.
