This would require at least 55 countries, accounting for at least 55 per cent of global emission to formally join the Paris Agreement by ratifying, accepting, or approving it. Till now, 26 countries, including US and China, accounting for 39.06 per cent of emissions, have joined the Agreement. Therefore, ensuring that the Paris Agreement enters into force has been a priority for the US. In negotiations prior to the 2015 agreement, the US consistently questioned the efficacy of a climate agreement that did not include the two major and growing economies of China and India in its fold. For India, access to finance and technology are central to meeting its targets, especially its efforts to augment the share of renewables in the energy mix.
