Early-onset Alzheimer's robbed B. Smith of her career, along with her memory. Today, she is cared for by her daughter, Dana Gasby, husband Dan Gasby and her husband's girlfriend Alex Lerner — none of whom she recognizes. Some of the most painful stories come about when a person is diagnosed with “early-onset” Alzheimer’s or any other version of dementia. In 2011, our support group had only a few people whose spouses were diagnosed with early-onset dementia. Early-onset dementia moves quickly, and Lewy body dementia is particularly brutal.
