But rather than just cultivating a creative workforce, the adage could have fostered unease around asking for help. “A lot of the time, we don’t even know who to ask,” says Freed. “The hardest part of helping people is being able to understand when there is a request for help,” says Freed. “If you see other people asking for help, it’s a lot easier to ask for help,” says Freed. “People who ask for help are showing that they’re willing to put their organization in front of their own ego,” says Freed, as does paying it forward.
