WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has nominated Indiana 's health commissioner to serve as the next US surgeon general , selecting an anaesthesiologist who promoted needle-exchange programs while serving under Vice President Mike Pence.The White House said yesterday Trump nominated Dr Jerome Adams to serve as the nation's chief doctor. He said it also connected IV drug users with treatment that can lead to their recovery from addiction and did not increase drug use. It affects the student athlete who gets hooked on the pain pills he was prescribed for a sports injury. "If confirmed, Adams would succeed Dr Vivek Murthy, a holdover from the Obama administration who resigned in April after helping during the transition between the two administrations. Adams would also serve as medical director in the Regular Corps of the Public Health Service.
