But the choice is entirely up to Mr. Trump, who is famously mercurial and known to keep his own counsel. Mr. Pence, a favorite of religious conservatives who twice considered running for president, has risen in Mr. Trump’s circles in recent days as a possible nominee. Mr. Trump often spends weekends at the course when he is not on the campaign trail.
